Personal Reserve Bainton Shiraz
Platinum - Best in Show: Best in Show
The Hunter way with Shiraz has traditionally been considered mid-weight. This broad-shouldered grandee, though, turns on the generosity, as the sweetly enticing black fruit aromas and deep-pile bramble fruits illustrate. The wine's overall gentleness of articulation is very Hunter, though, and it's not hard to imagine the savoury leather and tobacco evolution which surely lies ahead. Soft, ripe acidity is supportive but never dominant. This welcoming and unintimidating wine is proof that generously constituted Australian Shiraz can still be supremely drinkable.
